About us
KATI ERIKSEN
Introducing Kati Eriksen, a Master of Social Sciences, majoring in international relations and with qualifications in teaching history and social studies. Her career has been characterized by her involvement in numerous Sámi language and cultural development projects and positions across various Sámi organizations. She has had an instrumental role in Sámi human rights campaigns, including a strategic litigation case which led to victory in the Finnish Supreme Court. Beyond these accomplishments, Kati has been a significant figure in the creation of various media pieces such as films, music, video game, and has worked as a producer in numerous seminars, conferences, trainings, workshops, concerts, and other events. In recent years, she has led, from conception to completion, two international projects. Kati’s unique expertise lies in project creation, fundraising, and implementation, where her deep understanding of the Sámi language and culture fuels her work.
PIIA NUORGAM
Meet Piia Nuorgam, a skilled lawyer, who has dedicated her career to addressing issues related to the use and protection of Sámi cultural heritage. Piia has worked for over 10 years in the Sámi political and cultural world and extensively in the areas of indigenous rights, human rights, and their interaction with intellectual property. She has experience leading projects in the areas of cultural properties and cultural property protection. Her negotiating skills played a key role in fostering a collaboration between Disney Animations and the Sámi people, contributing to the culturally respectful portrayal in Frozen II. Recently, Piia has been focusing on projects aiming to record the traditional knowledge, skills, and practices associated with salmon fishing in the Teno River Valley. Her portfolio also includes instrumental role in the Finnish Supreme Court victory in the Sami fishing case. Her work showcases her commitment to preserving and promoting Sámi culture and heritage and implementation of the rights.
